A Day in the Life of a Small YouTube Animator & Digital Artist

Ever wonder what it's like being a small animator and artist who broadcasts their work all over the interwebs? I’m Ken Kenton, a small YouTuber animator and artist who does just that, and this is what a day in my life as a small artist and animator looks like.

Mornings

I start my day by waking up at 7 o'clock or later if I pull an all-nighter to meet a deadline. I eat a quick breakfast that consists of coffee and cookies while checking my socials, seeing if anyone followed me (usually not), and posting any videos that I had planned that I didn't from yesterday then or later in the day. Then I either animate a video, write for a video, blog, or just make art that may turn into something for a couple of hours. I jam out to Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace (both amazing bands highly recommend checking them both out!) while doing this. Then after I get tired or can’t think of something else to write, I switch over to the next task. Each day of the week has a “theme”. On Mondays, I mostly write, while on Tuesdays I do animation, filming, record videos and the other things are worked on less for that day. I plan out my days using Google Calendar to make sure that I don’t doom scroll and waste an entire day! Sometimes, I fall into the doom-scrolling trap, questioning my sanity while my overloaded brain refuses to function-but enough about that, let's move on to the afternoon.

Afternoons

Then I take a quick break to eat lunch and stretch as sitting in a chair for 4-5 hours without doing anything is a good way to have back problems! Giving my brain a break and then I plan out the rest of my week editing things if I’m ahead of schedule or falling behind on things that I need to make up. Then it's back to work! Usually, I leave filming and recording things in the afternoon or at night as my setup doesn’t like the sunlight that much and less noise so I don’t need to edit that in post. I also work on any props like the pig from my, “Learn Perspective with a pig!?” video (Link Here). To stop myself from burning out, I watch movies from my DVD collection, have a relaxing bath, meditate, take a run outside, (it keeps me fit too), play video games, or do anything to unwind and relax for a bit. Then I do some errands and housekeeping like buying groceries and cleaning my room. I talk to friends and family, because, most of the day, I spend my time alone with no social interactions at all! It’s just me and my thoughts over here! Let’s move on to the night!

Nights

I usually write during this time as I get comfy in bed with some coffee and a good movie to watch and get to typing! I review my day and write any ideas down for videos or stickers then I sleep at 10 pm or 12 if I need to make any last-minute changes to something like fixing timing on a video. Then I repeat this process until I die!

Conclusion

So that’s a day in my life as a small artist and animator. Being a small YouTube animator and digital artist is a challenge, but it’s fun creating content that I’m proud of!
